Azerbaijan releases 54 Armenians from captivity

On October 29, December 2, December 9 and December 11, Azerbaijan handed over 9 hostages to Armenia with the participation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the OSCE and the ICRC under the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, said deputy head of the working group of the State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Eldar Samadov.

"During these processes, the Azerbaijani side, respecting the principles of humanism, unconditionally released the elderly and ensured their reunion with their relatives", Eldar Samadov noted.

Samadov stated that 54 Armenians were released from captivity in all humanitarian processes in total.

“Six of them were detained in Azerbaijan before September 27, 2020. In addition, two elderly Armenian civilians, who were left helpless in the war zone by the Armenian armed forces, died in a hospital in Azerbaijan, and despite the efforts of doctors, their bodies were handed over to the other side through international organizations", he added.
